Alan, who received a successful stem-cell transplant 5 years ago, came to introduce himself and thank me at the food tent. Moments like this make it all worthwhile.

You can tell it’s summer time – everyone kicks back a little, moves into a bit lower gear, and savors each week. Summer time is a common time to lose the mojo of working out. Or, it could be the most motivating time because of the glorious weather if you like outdoor activities. I could have used this glorious weather a few weekends ago, which was the PMC weekend! Torrential rains couldn’t stop most of us, and after we made it through the last few hours on that Saturday, Sunday felt like a breeze. Since then, the training has relaxed into a comfortable pace, and cross training has once again taken hold.
The other major development is the beginning of our empty nest. More contemplation on that later, for now, I’ll just post a picture of the guys at the beach. Today, Dana moved back to Bates in Maine, Jordan took the plane to St. Louis to go to Washington Universtiy, and Josh will be moving into his Brookline digs on Labor Day to continue at Boston University. Many people are on vacation, and it’s so easy to exercise less and eat much more when you’re relaxed and off your normal schedule. Here’s a simple but effective 9 mins of cardio that you may want to add to your regimen a few times a week to pop your metabolism into higher gear. As usual, pay attention to what’s right for your body- don’t go down as low with the lunges, or keep your heel or toes on the floor for the balance exercises.

Nine minutes can make a difference, especially if you do it a few times a day. Enjoy the glorious weather !
